Porch and Deck Transformation

This summer porch and entry is now a year-round living space.
This is the original structure before renovations.
And here's the same perspective on the new cedar shingled exterior with energy efficient windows.
The original porch had a fiberglas roof and aluminum guillotine windows.
Scaffolding gave access to both roof and upper walls for renovations.
Here is a closeup of the roof structure and the now half open roof.
The new 3/4" plywood roof is here half posed, showing structure and process.
You never know who you may encounter when opening walls.
The structure was dismantled and rebuilt wall by wall.
Sliding doors installed, long wall covered and ready to shingle.
Out with the old, in with the new!
Cedar shingles are so warm and appealing.
These steps were ready to go!
Here the back deck is on, the railings are installed and the sliding door wall is shingled.
Another view from behind the tree.

Deck door framing with BC fir

Third storey deck door, with BC fir framing, leading to exterior spiral stair.

Second storey balcony with rounded profile

A beautiful architectural detail on the Montréal Plateau.
Below are the two balconies before renovation.

The old wood was brittle, rotten and had insect damage.

The old wood was ready to change.
All structural pieces were solidified or replaced then the balconies were redecked and cut to curve.

Both balconies were rebuilt at the same time.
Photo of both finished balconies before staining (above).
 And after staining.
